vCenter thin provisioning not so thin?

Hi,

We're having some troubles with the disk setup of our vCenter. This is the situation: we're running 12 Ubuntu virtual machines with thin provisioned 300GB disks on a vCenter cluster with a total storage of 1TB. Every virtual server is running Ubuntu 12.10 with the latest vmware tools installed and is hosting a few websites. The problem is that the disk usage in vCenter is increasing rapidly (by about 10 GB a day), while the disk usage of the virtual machine is pretty static (increases a few 100MB/day). To clearify: in one month our vCenter storage increased by 300GB, while the disk usage in Ubuntu didn't became larger.

Is this normal behaviour? If so, what would be the point of having thin provisioned disks if they are after 2 months equal in size as thick provisioned disks?

Specs:

vCenter: latest version (I think 5.1)

VMFS v5, 1MB block size

We're using Veeam backup, but the vm's don't have any snapshots on the local storage.
