Sata drives in a simple Esxi5.1 setup and RAID 10.

Most of y'all have very complicted setups. I've got Esxi on five different installations and it works great. All of my installations are small offices, very budget sensitive with only a few virtual machines. In each case, the drives inside are on a either Adaptec 6405 or LSI RAID 9260-4i controllers using RAID 1. In all caes - except one - they use SATA drives. In one case, where the box is running an Exchange server VM and a domain controlelr VM, I have that box running on faster SAS drives.

With that said, two questions:

  1. SAS drives are expensive, especially when you need a lot of space for customer data. I've got a future install on another lower end situation where there is a lot of data and not a huge need for disk speed. Do ya'll still cringe when SATA drives are mentioned?
  2. I've never used anything but RAID 1 but have been reading about RAID 10...any thoughts on RAID10?

Thanks!
