512MB should work but of course you have to try it. One way however is make a large swap file in the Ubuntu guest when you install it (custom partitioninig) - at leaslt 1GB. This would probablyi be needed if you areprogramming. I'd make a farily large swap file on the hos as well. One thing I always do for Windows swap file is to make the swap file the same size using advanced settings - don't let Windows d ecide. I'd almost never Windows decide for anything. Making to two values the same (and then reboot) will reduce disk thrashing.
